The Rooster on the Clan Sinclair Crest

Dear Gay,

I have been told that the rooster, "Le Coq d'Or" I think it is called
in French, is the symbol of the kings of France. I have also been told that
the rooster is an ancient Scandinavian symbol of good luck or good fortune.
Since the Sinclairs are supposed to be half Norwegian Viking and half French,
the above two explanations were given to me as to why the rooster appears on
the Clan Sinclair crest.
