Laurel reminds me of something else from the days of sailing ships -
"loose cannon"
Needless to say the barrel of the cannon was exceedingly heavy, if it
was off its mount, which could happen, the loose barrel was deadly as it
rolled around the gun deck.  And thank you Laurel for the 'brass
monkey'!
