There are Sinclairs of the place who started out in Shetland in 1480(?)
and wound up in the area next to Roslyn. They became variously, Sinclair
of Herdmanston, Lord Sinclair, Sinclair of Herdmanston and Polwarth and
I suspect other names which I have not yet come accross. So whether John
Knox's forebears are among them, can't say. I suspect if you really want
his background, you can probably search on John Knox and come up with
all sorts of information.
By the bye - on some clan maps they show a small Sinclair area next to
and not part of Roslyn.  regards, Sally
