"Old Pulteney" Origins

Further to my posting yesterday, Honourable Harry, the
Colonel of Pulteney's at Culloden was perhaps a
younger brother to William Pulteney,1st Earl of Bath, as
the Earl had only one son, also William. I will see if I
can find some more about this. Frances Pulteney, the
wife of Sir William Johnstone Pulteney, who gave his
name to Pulteneytown, the "new" town on the south
bank of the Wick River, was niece to the Earl of Bath
and inherited his estate of Bathwick. Pulteney Bridge in
Bath, England, and Pultneyville in New York State are
also named after Sir William Johnstone Pulteney,
Governor of the British Fisheries Society.
