Died:24 Jun 1314 Aged 24 at Bannockburn
Father:Gilbert de Clare, 7th Earl of Hertford, 3rd of Gloucester Mother:Joan
of Acre (daughter of King Edward I) at 17 his marriage was to: Matilda de
Burgh (daughter of Richard, 2nd Earl of Ulster).He was the first great
English nobles to fall at Bannockburn. After the battle, Robert the Bruce
upset at the death of Gilbert (his second cousin), and kept vigil over the
body for part of the night. He subsequently paid for the body to be shipped
back to England.
He was decended from Gilbert of Brionne Gilbert was a common de Clare name.
