No - the church was not named "first" as you do - we don't have that
tradition in Scotland.  I can assure that it was the first Baptist
church to be founded in Scotland.  It was built by a local landowner,
Sir William Sinclair.  He did have enough money to build the church
although in later years he got into financial difficulties and lost much
of his land.  The church is still there and still in use, my
grandparents worshipped there.  The church is Keiss baptist church,
Keiss being the name of the village where it is located.  I can assure
you I have got its origins right because of my close family connections
with it and because a friend of mine who is a Baptist minister and a
well respected church historian (PhD from St Andrew's University) did
the research..
