Dear Laurel,

      My husband, who is a retired U.S. diplomat,  said that when Governor 
George Romney of Michigan was running for president, there was some question 
about whether he was eligible to run because he was born in Mexico.  The 
consensus was that since both his parents were born in the United States that 
he met the provision of the U.S. Constitution that only native-born citizens 
could become president.
