I  had two witches in my colonial ancestry.  There is an account of the
"physical examination" Susannah North had to endure.  disgusting
detail....., condemned and hung.  The real reason was that she was a widow
with property.   No one could inherit property from a witch so  the county
officials got it all.
    The other "witch" in her 80's survived long enough for the governor to
outlaw this practice.  It seems that someone had accused his own sister of
witchcraft so he decided to end the trials.
