Hopefully, an interesting sidelight to Iain's comments.
Scota (the Dark One) was a Greek title of the Sea Goddess of Cyprus.
About the 13th century BC, population displacement occurred as
Indo-Europeans including the Dorian Greeks, among others, shoved aside the
"Peoples of the Sea". These eventually became the Milesians of Spain, who
brought their Goddess with them.
