Re: King James VI & I

I should have looked at the King James Bible first. Its preface begins "To
the most high and might prince James by the Grace of God King of Great
Britain, France and Ireland Defender of the Faith."

Sinclair has told me off the list (thank you again Sinclair) that our
Monarchs kept France in the title until Queen Victoria. Certainly my
Commission reads Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God of the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of her other Realms and
territiries Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith."

It is wonderful what you can learn through discussion on this list. Thanks
again, John, and Sinclair.

Yours aye

Iain
