King James VI of Scotland came down to London to reign simultaneously as 
James I of England when Queen Elizabeth died in 1603.  The so-called Virgin 
queen, Virginia was named after her.  Jamestown founded in 1607 was named for 
James I.

He was never King of France.  His mother married a king of France.
