Sir Archibald Henry Macdonald Sinclair, Bt. b. 22nd October 1890, d. 15th
June 1970 was a Member of Parliament from Caithness and Sutherland 1922-1945
He was the Liberal leader from 1935-1945. In the mid-1920s he assisted Lloyd
George in revising Liberal policy and was the author of the Liberal "The
Tartan Book'', which proposed Scottish devolution. He was Secretary of State
for Scotland from 1931-1932.and from  22 Feb 1942 Secretary of State Air for
under the reorganised Churchill Government.

As Air Minster he was responsible for 'Fighter Command' who  Winston
Churchill said of,  in the House of Commons "The gratitude of every home a
in our island, in our Empire, and indeed, throughout the world, except in
the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British Airmen, who, undaunted by
the odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are
turning the tide of world war by their prowess and by their devotion. Never
in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few!"

In the election 5 July 1945 Sir Archibald  lost his seat and his party, the
Liberal Party, was reduced to just 12 seats.

His grandson John  Thurso 3rd Viscount Thurso born 10th September 1953,
Chairman of Champneys  started as a trainee with the Savoy Hotel Group and
is now also a active member of the Clan Sinclair Trust
