Re: Tomar Castle 2

Dear Jean,
Much of the iron ware had been discarded by the time they got to
Jerusalem. It was so hot compared to Northern Europe in the summer they had
just come through as they fought for every inch of the way.
Think rag tag army and the Biblical "sackcloth and ashes". The idea of
walking barefoot around the walls hearing the jeers of the Moslems
was to humble these "gentlemen" after many
months of vain-glory infighting amongst themselves that had slowed down the
Crusade and put the movement in danger at times because of their pride. It
was also an act of faith after many prayers. They were a pretty subdued
group
after this experience. So I can't envision them
putting on their armor at all. They had put their faith in God and not in
man-made objects which gave them the battle edge to win.
Hollywood has done such a disservice to the truth as
usual.
