Sinclair
I had this verbally from Niven Sinclair in 2000.
He noted that many English St Clair castles passsed to English families
as a result of the (hereditary) lack of of male heirs.And there are the
Scottish ones.
Perhaps he meant that the family had owned more castles than any other
family. Many Scottish Towers and Castles have been held ( past tense )
by Sinclairs.
