Hi All.
I want to clear up a few things for anyone who
is
studing this family.
And Stanley:
First of all I got the birthdate on Henry St.
Clair
off of the 1900 census first, then someone found
the
tombstones of Henry and Sarah that verified the
birthdates on both and gave the day of birth.
Secondly and I feel very important, There is
NOWAY
that Joseph and Mary adopted My Henry. They had a
son
Henry C. that was killed. My Henry St. Clair came
to
Missouri before 1870 with William C. St. Clair.
The
reason I say this is: On The 1870 census it list
Henry
"Sinclair" Sarah, Charles Edward, Elizabeth,
David P.,
and Carrie L. All Born in Virgina, but I found
them
all on the 1880 census and Carrie L is listed as
born
in Missouri and so was the last child Eliza Dora.
Carrie L. was born May of 1870. So I take this as
they
came between Sept. of 1865 and before May of
1870.
So I hope this clears up the adoption idea.
Henry
was still in VA. when Joseph came to MO. Joseph
and
Mary had children named Henry C. (But on the 1850
census is has Shelser and I was told that the
census
taker could have misspelled that) and Oliver.
Also on
the 1850 census Mary is listed as Polly, Is this
the
same woman?
I also Got a Look Up in the History of Jackson
County, that has Charles E. St. Clair Son of
Robert
and Elmira Hewitt St. Clair. and George W. St.
Clair
son of George W. and Caroline Elizabeth St. Clair
St.
Clair. If Anyone needs info from these pages Let
me
know.
