It may come as surprise to you, but Norway had more than adequate resources
of timber for ship-building in the traditional manner.
The manifests of trade-goods originating from North America that had been a
source of profit since Viking times is quite considerable. Furs and tusk
ivory for example. To say nothing of the fish for which the Newfoundland
Banks were famous.
