Castle of MeyThe Castle of Mey was completed in 1572 by George Sinclair (1533-1582), fourth Earl of Caithness. The Sinclairs called it Barrogill. The Queen Mother Elizabeth liked it so much she bought it in 1953 and she usually resided there in August and October. According to Malcolm Caithness, she handed it over to a Trust but has became the tenant and continued to go up there as regularly as before depending on her health and programme.
