John Sinclair LTD., Tobacco Company

 Founded in   ?   by John Sinclair (1826-1895)  who moved to
Newcastle-on-Tyne, Scotland in the mid 1800's.  John was married to Margaret
(1840-1905) and had about a dozen children.  John had a brother Robert. They
were the sons of  Robert Sinclair.  John's picture appeared on the cigarette
packs.  His sons sold the business to the Imperial Tobacco Company

Dr.Robert Sinclair received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science
from Cambridge University. After holding research positions at the
University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the University of California,
Berkeley, he joined the faculty of Stanford University, Department of
Materials Science and Engineering, in 1977.
Dr. Sinclair's research centres on the application of high resolution
transmission electron spectroscopy (TEM) to a wide range of materials
problems. TEM provides imaging of materials at the atomic level, and
therefore provides microstructural information necessary for the
understanding of structural, electrical, and magnetic properties of
materials. Dr. Sinclair's research has included materials of interest both
to microelectronics and to magnetic data storage.


JOHN SWINBURN, Railway Inspector (North Eastern Railway)at Lesbury,
Northumberland, born 3 February 1818 Lamesley, baptised 18 March 1818

census {6/7 June}), of Fugar Bar at birth of 1st son then 'of Streetgate'
{on outskirts of Lamesley} at birth of 2nd son, died 18 March 1892 (will),
buried Pelton church yard, married 18 April 1841 at St. John's Church,
Newcastle-upon-Tyne, MARGARET ANN SINCLAIR, born 1821 Wreckenham, Durham,
baptised 10 June 1821 Tanfield, co. Durham (daughter of THOMAS and MARGARET
ANN SINCLAIR), she died 15 April 1899 (will), buried Pelton church yard,
they were living at Pelton Grange, Pelton in 1851, at 23 Fugar House aged 37
Railway Labourer in 1861, at 40 Sunderland Street, Gateshead in 1871 with
their children Robert and Isabella, and at Pelton Fell, Alma Cottages in
1881 with their grandson John A. Ross, born Gateshead, Durham 1869,
ISABELLA CATHERINE SINCLAIR SWINBURN, born 8 September 1857 at Old
Station,Lesbury, Northumberland, baptised 25 October 1857 Whickham, with
parents on 1861 and 1871 census, died 24 June 1938 Chester le Street, buried
Pelton church yard with parents, will dated 26 March 1912, proved 25 July
1938, married 2 February 1880 (or 24 June) at St. John's Church,
Newcastle-upon-Tyne JESSE HARGRAVE, (son of JOHN HARGRAVE(S), Master
Bricklayer and MARY HALLIDAY) Architect/Surveyor, born 14 October 1856 at
Burley Lawn, Leeds, died 7 March 1932 Northampton, buried Billing Road
Cemetery
MARGARET ANNIE HARGRAVE, born 26 November 1880 at 73 George Road,
Newcastle-upon-Tyne, married 13 November 1913 St. Chad's, Gateshead JAMES
DAGLISH EMMERSON (widower), they had a daughter KATIE SINCLAIR SWINBURN
HARGRAVE, b.1915

Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Do not know if this is waht you are looking for.  Footballer Trevor Sinclair
was aquired by Newcastle for 6 million quid this spring
