Re: research trip, Tim Wallace Murphy

Dear Tim:
Glad to hear directly from you at last.
The man you should see is W.E. "Bill" Sinclair of Halifax. I believe he is
known to you from the Sinclair Symposium days.
The Micmac representatives that came to the Symposium came courtesy of the
good offices of Bill and our sister organization, the Clan Sinclair Society
of Nova Scotia. The Micmacs must of course speak for themselves but it was
the hard work and sensitive negotiations on the part of Bill and his brother
Jack that pulled that miracle off AND the later appearance of Micmacs at the
Celebration in Guysborough in July. Be aware that the Prince Henry story
has a number of pitfalls for those who follow old style characterizations of
the European Contact such as:
1: White people did not "discover" America for indeed it had already been
"discovered" by those who were currently living there.
2: Europeans did not "teach wisdom to ignorant savages" for the indigenous
people of the New World had already reached high levels of civilization.
There are of course many other false steps that could be made and there are
still lots of folk making them.
My suggestion is that you immediately contact Bill at:
                                    200 Spinaker Drive,
Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3N 3C6 tel
and fax: (902) 479-7470 (sorry no email)
He will put you on the right track.

Yours aye, Rory
