If that other Donald Sinclair, namely Donald Lee Sinclair of Indiana taps
into this discussion
page, he will find some information on Hempriggs in Caithness. I will be
trying to find out more
about the origins of the place when I'm in Caithness at the end of the month.

From Ian Laird's contribution to this page, it would seem that Hempriggs
was a name brought
in by the Dunbars from their Morayshire Estate of the same name whereas the
original name
of Hempriggs in Caithness was Telstane.

We are still no wiser as to who built Hempriggs. The Earl of Caithness
believes it was built by
the Sinclairs and was 'lost' to the Dunbars through a marriage
alliance. As the Sinclairs also
owned land in Morayshire they, rather than the Dunbars, may have imported
the name.

This is an area which requires further research.
