Ah but Sinclair does not equal Clan; not all Sinclairs are Scottish. (I've
yet to prove that I'm not but I will!) Betty's mail is mildly offensive,
insular and  ill-conceived (someone please send her a netiquette FAQ) but
shock! there is a valid point in there. Not all Sinclairs are Scottish - and
the non Scots should unite ;-). There is a tendency these days to look for
and claim ethnic roots. This is all well and good but the English Sinclairs
can be proud to be English. Unless someone tells me otherwise this is a
Sinclair not a Scottish Sinclair mailing list. It's a fine list so please
Betty don't be so American and all you English Sinclairs speak up and let's
start putting the English Sinclairs on the map (or tree).

So having said that I'm interested in references (I already received some
good leads today) to English Sinclairs. It would also be nice to learn
something about the very root of the tree. Presumably all branches started
out Norman. How do the German Sinklers fit in?
