Losantiville was the original name of Cinncinati. John Filson was an
original surveyor of the town , and created the name . L for the Licking
River , os for mouth of the river , anti for opposite and ville for
city -city opposite the mouth of the Licking. This from Allan Eckert's "That
Dark and Bloody River". Arthur St.Clair changed it to Cinncinati in honor fo
the Society of Cinncinatus , an organization for Revolutionary Army
Officers, thus sparing us the Losantiville Reds and the Losantiville Bengals
