To Laurel and William

I found the reference to the 17th Earl. It is in the booklet "The Sinclairs of Roslin, Caithness and Goshen" by the Rev. A. Maclean Sinclair, written c. 1901

After reciting all the previous begats, it reads "John-Sutherland Sinclair, seventeenth Earl of Caithness, was born in 1857. He was educated at the University of Aberdeen. He emigrated to the United States. He has a farm called Berriedale at Lacota in North Dacota. He has no land in Scotland. But that is not a matter of any great consequence; he is chief of the Sinclairs of Caithness."

It doesn't mention anything of his children. Perhaps digging into the newspapers near Lacota will reveal more information.

Cheers,

Toni S.
