Evidence and Proof



Katherine Kurtz is, indeed, still lurking.  I repost in response to Ward
Ginn's request.

The comment he's looking for was from a quote originally in Latin, I
believe, and in a theological context, but translates as: "Absence of proof
is not proof of absence."  I believe it's a good guideline for historians as
well as writers of fantasy and speculative fiction.  In other words, it's a
good idea to keep an open mind.  There are some things we don't know, and
some things we will never know.  Speculation is one of the more enjoyable
pursuits of humankind.
