Re: Hughes de Payen?

"Mohammed (Muhammad) is the Messenger of Allah." (Qur'an 48:29) he is the
founder of Islam (Muslim) a religion believed in by about 1.2 billion
people.

The Katharine/Hughes marriage is most likely a myth. No evidence exists to
creditably support the story. The story first appears about 400 years ago.
It is a bit like the 'Prince' Henry story, Henry was the premier Earl of
Norway. Princes did not exist in Britain officially until letters patent of
30.11.1917 by which the titular dignity of Prince/Princess, with the
qualification of Royal Highness, was restricted to the children of the
sovereign, the children of the sons of any such sovereign, and the eldest
son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales (the title held by the heir
apparent to the throne). A custom adopted this century has been for the
children of a sovereign to be distinguished by the prefix "The" before the
title of prince/princess.

The German distinguished Fürst and Prinz from the 16th Century. Henry VIII
used Prince in referring to those he considered lesser to himself. Henry,
incidentally was the first English king to use a numeral after his name. The
Pope had granted him the title of Fidei Defensor (defender of the faith) in
1521. By Irish statute of 1541, he became king of Ireland. A statute of 1544
(33 Hen VIII c.3) granted him the style of King of England, France and
Ireland, Defender of the Faith, and of the Church of England and also of
Ireland on earth the supreme head. This act was repealed by Mary in 1553.
