Re: genetic testing

I participated in the genetic testing mentioned at a local Western NY State site. Participants do not receive any results or data relative to their blood sample. They are building a data base so people in the future could submit a hair sample and receive leads to areas of the world where others have the same genetic composition.

This would be useful in the future to determine if your Sinclairs have the same DNA as those in Orkney or New Zealand. It seems that the most useful outcome will be for males who are direct descendents. ALL direct male descendents of a given ancestor (eg William Sinclair) will have the EXACT same genetic marker. This is a double edged sword as there may be some who discover that they do not descend from the previously identified ancestor.
