The Sinclair connection with Canongate would be through Canongate
Kilwinning No 2
Masonic Lodge as the Sinclairs were the hereditary Grandmasters who adjudicated
on matters relating to the Crafts and Guilds of Scotland.

The Sinclairs of Whitekirk were descended from Oliver Sinclair of Pitcairn
and Whytkirk
and he was the fourth son of Oliver Sinclair of Roslin who suffered the
defeat at Solway
Moss when commanding the Scottish forces. He was the favourite of James V and,
as such, was vastly unpopular.
