There are many many Sinclairs from Orkney.

There are:

                                         The Sinclairs of Warsetter (Sanday)
The Sinclairs of Tohop and Saba
                                         The Sinclairs of Ethay
                                         The Sinclairs of Essenquoy
                                         The Sinclairs of Greenwall,
Flottay, ( Gyre, Holm and Orphir)
                                         The Sinclairs of Clumlie, Towquoy,
(Sandwick, Westray and Birsay)
The Sinclairs of Gorne and Burwick
                                         The Sinclairs of Overbrough (Harra)
                                         The Sinclairs of Craya (Stromness)
                                         The Sinclairs of Rapness (Westray)
                                         The Sinclairs of Estaquoy (Harra)
                                         The Sinclairs of Nethergarth (Harra)
                                         The Sinclairs of Camston
                                         The Sinclairs of Damsay
                                         The Sinclairs of Conyar (Harra)
                                         (from which branch Roland William
St Clair, the author of the
"St Clairs of the Isles" emanates
although, like many Orcadians,
his family emigrated to New Zealand).

Names in brackets denote nearest town or, in some cases, island. Where no
name appears in brackets, the
name itself is sufficient to establish the whereabouts of the particular
branch of the family.

If you let me know the name of your most distant ancestor (preferably the
one who was the first to emigrate)
we might be able to trace which branch of the family you belong to - not
that that is necessarily important -
being a Sinclair is enough.
