 StClair was given an 1,000 acre tract for services in Rev.war in the Ligonier
valley,Ligonier Pa. He had built a beautiful home there and had woodwork done
by skilled carpenters who were sent by G.Washington after working on Mt.
Vernon.   Many years  after the war he found himself deeply in debt ,"he
wouldn,t be compensated until 40yr,s after his death  for helping finance the
revolution " and in 1810 a creditor secured an execution for $10,000.
 StClair sold 95% of his land, his home called 'The Hermitage" ,a small mill
and an iron furnace. Properties est. at $50,000 were sold for a total of
$4,000.
 After selling everything he moved to a log cabin on Chestnut Ridge 5 miles
west of Ligonier on land owned by son Daniel.
