Dear Kay;
I am amazed that there are so many Sinclair names used as
second or middle names to say nothing of some first names.
Your information on the quakers puts a bit of a spin on the
story because it is a clue to your ancestors adopting
another faith in Scotland quite different from the
Protestant and Church of Scotland who were less than
friendly with the Catholics. Hence the search for religious
freedom may be a big part of your story and may have tied
into Culloden and perhaps not. You may want to read about
the campaigns from Bonnie Prince Charlie who was a bit more
successful before Culloden. The aftermat of the wars though
gave many individuals reason to flee. The English were less
than foregiving and took the opportunity to outlaw the clans
and the Gaelic language following this period. For your
ancestors to jump from the pot into the frying pan with
Maryland is quite a story. Have fun.
