>Hello, my name is Richard Ray Lower, descended also from the Sinclairs of
Caithness. Our bunch were of Brabsterdorran, Dun, Southdun and other
hamlets all around Loch Watten. I was there a couple of times trying to get
a line on any of them, but the North Sea weather and time have erased most
unprotected domiciles and tombstones and I didn't do well. At the time of
your Admiral Donald's birth, my ancestors were "of Brabsterdorrran" and it's
more than possible we are related, but without more information about
siblings, we are probably dead in the water on this one.

As to the feasibility of there being an "Admiral" Sinclair, certainly our
cousin Prince Henry, Jarl of Orkney, Earl of Caithness, Baron of Rosslyn,
etc etc was Lord High Admiral of Scotland in the mid-1300's, and the
Sinclairs of Caithness and the Isles produced any number of masters and
seamen. I have an old record of the Shetlands, showing all of the Sinclairs
there who served in the Royal Navy. This was just in the 1930's and during
WWII, and there were dozens.

The Sinclairs of Caithness section in the Sinclair web site is an excellant
if non-geneologicallly specific account of the place of our ancestors. If
you haven't already, try it on
http://pas1.erols,com/sinclair/timeline.html-ssi .
I would appreciate your sending any family history data you have on your
Caithness family. I checked all of mine and found other Calder joinings
with my line, both later and earlier, but no reference to Clacher or McIver.
Lots of luck.

Ray
