Both Scotland and England chartered lodges in the US.
I think you'll find earlier lodges than in Virginia. The Grand Lodge of
England, on June 5, 1730, issued a deputation to Daniel Coxe to act as
"Provincial Grand Master of the Provinces of New York, New Jersey and
Pennsylvania in America."
Lodges which admit females are not "recognized" by the mainstream
jurisdictions.
Prince Hall affiliated lodges originated w/ African Lodge, chartered by the
Grand Lodge of England in 1784.
