Dear Laurel:
Yep it works on the recorder because recorders can play incidentals
(sharpened or flattened notes)
Tried the tune immediately on my electronic bagpipe and it starts to become
impossible almost right away but the 3rd line as it rises up from semi-tone
to semi-tone just can't be done on the pipes.
The tune of course was very familiar, just didn't know it by name.
