When in Scotland last fall, we had the opportunity to pass through Glencoe, an
absolutely beautiful valley. According to the tour director, Glencoe was the
homebase of the Clan MacDonald. On the orders of Edward Longshanks (I
believe), King of England, the Campbells visited the MacDonalds and after
staying for a week or so, rose up one night and killed all of the MacDonalds
in Glencoe. This irritated those members of the Mac Donald clan who were not
in Glencoe. As a result, it is reported, that is the reason why we cannot get
Campbell's soup at a Mac Donald's restaurant today. (Tour Director was English
- maybe that's why she told the story. :)
