In this case, I venture the answer to be that the Morrison book, copyright 1896, is now in the public domain, having passed the 75 year mark a couple of decades ago. And, venturing further, I think Robert's plan falls within fair use, even if the book were not in the public domain. But then I am no lawyer (even if I do like playing one on the internet -- so much more comfortable than in the jailhouse.)
