It seems that as the family gained knowledge of english, grammar and spelling,
the name evolved. Thomas,1746, signed his name "Thomas Sincklor". In 1766,he
signed it "Thomas Sinclour".His brothers signed "Joseph Sinklore" and "John
Sinkler". As the 1800s started, Thomas's sons spelled their names Sinclair.
His son Thomas, had a son James(my grandfather) who changed his last name to
St. Clair. He was the only child, of eight children, to change his name. The
rest all kept the "Sinclair".Cheryl
