Re: Islay Sinclairs

Hello, mj

I'm always happy to hear from another Islay Sinclair researcher! I have a list of Sinclairs born on the island from 1770 - 1850, and found your John, but my records
show that he was born in the Oa. (This part of the parish of Kildalton now, just south of Bowmore.) There was also a Hugh, b 10 April, 1839.

I cannot find a Duncan born in the 1780s, but that doesn't mean much, since baptisms weren't always recorded. Are you sure about the year?

I found a Duncan b 5 Oct, 1794 son of Donald S. and Isobel Currie, Bowmore and
another one born 12 Nov. 1797, son of Donald S and Ann Clark, Bowmore
and another born 2 Jan. 1796, son of Archibald S. and ? , Kildalton
finally, one born 1802, son of John S and Effie Clark, Bowmore

There are others, but born later.

Does this help?

His parents were Duncan Sinclair (born c1787) and Mary MacGibbon (born c1800). John migrated to New Zealand in about 1863 and married Janet Christie in 1866 at Balclutha, New Zealand. Can anyone help me?
