Margaret,
  Thanks so much for your help.  I will keep searching California.  Maybe somewhere he will turn up there eventually.
  I may (through another cousin) finally have a lead on Daniel.  There was a Casper St. Clair born in 1772 in the same area as Daniel was at the time, and Daniel had a son that he named Casper.  This was such an unusual name at that time that I am really hoping we will finally find something concrete.
