Re: Sinclair Tartan - forwarded message

Dear Mel:
It sure does pay to read other's messages before one posts one's own
messages.
I checked out the list of septs on the Clan Sinclair web page. Wow! What a
list!
I will ask Mary about sources -- this list is HUGE compared to what was
known at the time that Learny and Adam wrote and I would like to know if
this is a laundry list of Orkney/Caithness names and hence in a general
sense, adherents of Clan Sinclair or are there sources that make them Septs
in the sense that Lord Lyon uses the term. My feeling is the former and not
the latter but that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee at most cafes.
I do not in anyway want this to be interpreted as some kind of legalism that
would forbid the wearing of our tartan by those on this list -- au
contraire, I take such things as an enormous compliment to the strength and
history of our Clan.
Rory in Toronto.
