Re: Sinclairs in New Zealand

HI NIven,

I have actually done a fair bit of research on Captain Gay. Annie was his
child.
In the Cradle of Canterbury by Gorden Ogilve he says" The grave of Annie Gay
, one of Captain Gay's daughters, is fenced off on a consecreted rood." pg
97

Captain Gay died in tragic circumstances and while this story varys a little
in different records the general things stay the same.

Capt Gay married Jane in 1849.

"On a return voyage to Auckland with a cargo of mules, he had to manhandle
an abusive crew member, was charged with assault, and spent a prison term in
jail. Gay died of pneumonia soon after while returning to the islands in
February 1865."
