The Irvines and the Sinclairs accompanied Bruce to Orkney in 1306
so it is not surprising to find Irvine in your name

Your easiest (and most accurate) source of information would come
    from :

                         The Archivisit,
                         Council Buildings,
                         Kirkwall, Orkney.

Church records of South Ronaldsay would also be an excellent place to
  begin your research.

I shall be going to Orkney next month but, as I'll be busy fliming
on Eynhallow (The Holy Island of Orkney)I regret I won't have time to
do any research on your family (much as I would like to be able to
help).

Good luck. Compared with most searches, yours should be compratively
simple to trace.
